HISTORICAL BACKGROUND OF MKONDEZI SCHOOL

LOCATION
Mkondezi School is located to the west of Nkhata-Bay town 7 kilometers away. It is bordered by an Agricultural Research Station to the south. It has one village head, Chapumbwa.

ORIGIN
The school was established in 1979 and opened in 1980. The school site was given by the village head in collaboration with Traditional Authority (TA) Mkumbira. The village head is under the authority of the Traditional authority.

The school is ran by one village head and it has been administered by head teachers since inception.

ENROLMENT
There are 638 learners of which 338 are boys and 300 are girls.

STAFFING
There are only seven teachers against 8 classes (grades 1 to 8). Three of the teachers are males and four females.

Understaffing is a major setback. Parents sometimes employ their own assistant teachers if they solicit funds through community contribution.

Teachers are very eager to further their education financial constraints. There are only five teachers at the school at present.

BUILDINGS
There are eight blocks of which four are classrooms for grades 1 to 8. There is also an assembly hall, housecraft, workshop and an administration block for head teacher's office, staff room and a health room.
